The expert for nose corrections

FAQ

Do you have pain after nose surgery?

Since rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia, you will have no pain at all during or immediately after the operation. Our professional team ensures that you can rely on it.

If a nose job is carried out correctly, only mild pain will be felt hours after the operation. Severe pain is only very rarely present. Mild, long-lasting pain usually only occurs with a major nose correction and stops after just a few days.

Some of our patients take conventional painkillers in the usual dosage for a few days. Most of our patients can cope without taking any painkillers. The team will be happy to advise you in detail about these problems.

How long is the recovery time after rhinoplasty?

After the procedure, we usually remove the stitches on the 5th day after the rhinoplasty. Bruising and swelling may vary depending on the patient, but within two weeks you will be ready to return to work and participate in social life. A big advantage is certainly the home office, which offers you the opportunity to work in the immediate healing phase.

Do I have to wear a plaster splint after nose surgery?

Not every rhinoplasty involves changing the bone structure, as procedures are only carried out on the tip of the nose. A nasal cast is only necessary for a few days, if at all. If a cast is required after standard surgery, it is usually left in place for 8-12 days. After this time you are socially acceptable again. Because of the swelling, a new cast should be fitted about 5 days after the operation.

How long do I have to wear the splint?

After rhinoplasty, in most cases it is necessary to wear a splint to stabilize the nose so that the desired result is maintained. The wearing time depends on the type of rhinoplasty.

When does swelling disappear after rhinoplasty?

This depends on three main factors: the extent of the rhinoplasty, the basic anatomical requirements and the professionalism of the treating team of doctors. For some operations the swelling is completely gone after 3 months, for others it takes up to a year. In this context, we must point out that the final result of a rhinoplasty can only be seen after the swelling has completely subsided. This means that it takes some time until the “new” nose can be finally assessed.

As a rule, you can return to everyday life after removing the splint.

However, the swelling is usually too small for outsiders to notice.

Will I have bruises after rhinoplasty?

Chances are good that you will come away with no bruises after your rhinoplasty. Statistically, one in 5 patients will bruise or have a black eye. I know how important it is to you to have a quick recovery after rhinoplasty.

Bruises are more common only after major nose corrections. One to two weeks after your rhinoplasty, the bruises will disappear and you can show off your new nose in public after the splint is removed.

Is pulling the tamponades painful?

No, because we do not use classic tamponades. If classic tamponades remain in the nose for several days after rhinoplasty, they often “cake” with the mucous membrane. In this case the pulling is painful. However, we only use front tamponades and these are removed after 24 hours, so there is no caking. We take strict care to ensure that this deadline is not exceeded. The pulling is then not painful.

When will I see the results of rhinoplasty?

When the immediate swelling has gone down (after about 2 weeks), most of my patients are pleasantly surprised and can already see the results of the rhinoplasty.
Although your profile will improve immediately after the procedure, the final result will only be visible over the next 6-12 months.

What is open rhinoplasty?

During an open rhinoplasty, the tip skin is lifted to expose the entire internal framework. The direct view enables fine work at the tip and if necessary. the placement of cartilage transplants. Many patients are afraid of an external scar, but the scarring is inconspicuous and is not noticeable even on closer inspection. It is sewn with the finest threads under the microscope.

Will people see that my nose has been operated on?

The primary goal of a rhinoplasty is to ensure that the result of the operation appears natural. If the nose has been operated on professionally, you cannot tell that the nose has had an operation. In order to achieve such a result in your rhinoplasty, an operation is required that is carried out by experienced doctors.

But it’s not just the external appearance that is important after a nose job. How you breathe with your nose is also important. After a certain period of getting used to it, which can take several months after the rhinoplasty, you will feel a completely natural feeling. Only when these factors come together will I be satisfied with your rhinoplasty.

Can you see the cuts from the outside?

As a rule, rhinoplasty is carried out through interventions inside the nose. The outer skin is therefore not cut. No visible scars or skin discoloration will normally occur during a rhinoplasty.

During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made in the bridge of the nose. At the end of the operation, this is sewn under the microscope with the finest threads, so that there is hardly ever a scar left afterwards.

Is the result of a rhinoplasty permanent?

The results of a rhinoplasty are permanent. The nose operation must therefore be carefully planned.

How long do I have to stay in the hospital after a rhinoplasty?

The decision whether to be an outpatient or an inpatient depends primarily on where and how you live. For most patients in our area, we can easily carry out the procedure on an outpatient basis. Sometimes it can make sense to stay with us for a night after a nose job.

With Dr. Kelly® we offer you the opportunity to spend the night after the operation in a private patient room. A nursing team is there for you around the clock.

I wear glasses; Is this a problem after rhinoplasty?

Contact lenses can be worn immediately, but glasses must be taped to the forehead or supported on the splint for two weeks.

Can I go out in the sun after my nose job?

In principle yes. Sunlight itself is not harmful. But: Long-term exposure to heat radiation from the sun has a negative effect on the speed of healing after rhinoplasty. The same applies to solariums or other effects on the skin that are caused by strong heat (e.g. sauna or steam baths). We advise you to avoid places where temperatures are high after your rhinoplasty.

You should also refrain from strenuous exertion or sporting activities in the days following the rhinoplasty. Give yourself and your body some time to calmly deal with the after-effects of the rhinoplasty.

Does the nose have to be operated on under general anesthesia?

As a rule, yes, because a rhinoplasty usually requires more extensive surgery in the facial area. General anesthesia has proven to be effective. They enable completely painless procedures during rhinoplasty.

Exceptions are small corrections that can be made under local anesthesia. The procedure varies from clinic to clinic. Only honest and competent advice will enable you as a patient to make a professionally based decision. So before your nose correction, get detailed advice from the specialist and then make your decision in peace.

Does nasal breathing become worse as the nose becomes smaller?

No, this risk is very rare with conventional rhinoplasty. Exception: Severe nose reductions. However, the surgeon can counteract this by changing the corresponding anatomical structures during the rhinoplasty. The areas inside the nose that stand in the way of normal breathing are operated on. This means that even with major nose corrections, difficulties in nasal breathing can be reliably avoided.

We attach great importance to treating you in such a way that your nose correction, even in the case of a more extensive reduction, does not have any negative consequences for your breathing.

Can obstructed nasal breathing be improved with a rhinoplasty?

Yes. If nasal breathing is poor before the operation, an improvement operation is usually carried out at the same time. This does not affect the aesthetic result nor will you experience any more pain after the rhinoplasty. So the opportunity to improve breathing during rhinoplasty through surgery is very favorable and can lead to amazingly positive results.

It’s not just the beauty that comes into play. Optimized nasal breathing leads to better general well-being, greater performance and deeper sleep. We would be happy to advise you in detail on all aspects of optimizing breathing as part of a rhinoplasty.

How many days of vacation should I plan for my rhinoplasty?

Usually 2 weeks is enough. After a nose correction there will be swelling in the facial area, but this will subside after a few days. If you have to wear a plaster splint after your rhinoplasty, you can expect that it can be removed 8-12 days later so that you can return to full work.

Please speak to your employer in good time and ask for vacation. It is advisable to clarify the dates for the nose correction and your holidays from the first date suggestion you receive from us

How accurate is the significance of the computer simulation of rhinoplasty?

On a subjective scale of 0-100, a good surgeon can certainly achieve 90% of the look of the computer simulation. However, the computer simulation must be professionally created before the rhinoplasty. Every rhinoplasty has anatomical and medical limitations that must be adhered to during simulation. If this is not the case, a rhinoplasty can easily become a disappointment.

We work with modern simulator programs that take individual requirements and operational options into account equally. Added to this is our expertise and many years of experience. We combine technical support and human know-how. Both lead to a meaningful simulation in advance of your rhinoplasty.
