Procedure

Procedure of a nose operation

Before every nose operation, a detailed facial analysis is carried out at our clinic near Zug. Based on this facial analysis, a true-to-scale plan of the new nose is drawn up together with you. The measurements obtained are then transferred to the surgical plan. This ensures that your individual requirements are perfectly implemented. We first check whether nasal breathing is functioning properly and whether the nasal mucosa is in perfect condition.

There are many different rhinoplasty procedures, which take different lengths of time. In most cases, the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis if a patient lives near us. Otherwise, we recommend a short inpatient stay.

If anatomical airway obstructions (e.g. a crooked nasal septum) are present, these are of course corrected at the same time as the operation.

Almost every nasal operation is performed under general anesthesia. The so-called “Disoprivan procedure” is used for this.

The nose operation takes about 1-3 hours. The necessary incisions can often be made in such a way that the procedure is not visible from the outside. Depending on the desired correction, even smaller incisions may be necessary, for example on the wing of the nose. Special surgical instruments are inserted through the incisions in the mucous membrane, with which the soft tissues of the nose can be prepared accordingly. In this way, for example, cartilaginous and bony parts of a nasal hump can be removed and an unaesthetic tip of the nose can be corrected. Correction of the tip of the nose alone is also possible under local anesthesia with sedation. A nasal plaster offers the best protection for the new nose. The plaster splint can be removed after about ten days.

Is there any pain after the nose operation?

There is only moderate pain after the procedure. Many of our patients manage without taking any painkillers. We rarely see hematomas (“black eye”) (in approx. 1 in 4 cases). These usually disappear again after 2 weeks.

Do I have to wear a plaster cast after rhinoplasty?

Not every rhinoplasty alters the skeleton, as procedures are also performed on the tip of the nose only. A nasal cast is then only required for a few days, if at all. If a plaster cast is required, it is usually left in place for 8-12 days. After this time, you will be socially acceptable again. A new plaster cast should be fitted approximately 4 days after the operation due to swelling reduction.

Complications and how to avoid them

The same applies to all surgery: the experience and prudence of the surgeon and his team are the best guarantees for a smooth procedure.
